The Mirror: Reflections of Hellos and Goodbyes

In my family, we inherit furniture. One of the pieces I published is about a mirror from the entry to my grandmother’s home. It greeted everyone who entered and said goodbye to all who left for many generations. It is now hung above my desk and the pictures of relatives are reflected in the same glass that greeted so many. It witnessed the tragedies and triumphs, and as I looked in the reflection, I realized that those whose images reflected from long ago are still in or near the mirror today.

It brought to mind the idea of family heirlooms, and the stories they could tell. The scratches, the marks, the reflections all came from someone at some time. I hope you enjoy reading the little piece on the mirror of hellos and goodbyes.
